SCOPE OF THIS CHAPTER
This chapter should be read in conjunction with West Yorkshire Consortium Procedures Manual.
This chapter should be read by all staff to ensure the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults.

Safeguarding Champion Roles Procedure
This is a new chapter for January 2011.
- Listen to children & vulnerable adults.
- Follow the Safeguarding flow chart in your Centre if you suspect that any child or adult is at risk of Significant Harm. See and implement the Safeguarding Procedures available at West Yorkshire LSCB.
- If you have a concern or a concern is raised with you regarding a child or vulnerable adult you must immediately notify the Safeguarding Champion and the Child Protection Lead (the Children’s Centre Manager). If neither of these is your line manager you must also notify your line manager. Also see Safeguarding Champion Roles Procedure.
- Work in partnership with the Safeguarding Champion and other professionals to ensure the safety of children and vulnerable adults.
- Use the appropriate forms in the Family Support Handbook and follow the guidance on recording concerns.
- Undertake all essential Safeguarding training and updates appropriate to your role. Details can be found at Kirklees Safeguarding Children Board.
- Ensure that you comply with Kirklees staff vetting procedures, undertake an enhanced CRB check, reviewed every 3 years and notify your manager of any change to your status.
- Comply with the safe access and exit procedures for the building.
- Wear your Identification Badge visibly at ALL times.
- Challenge all visitors to the children’s centre who do not have clear visible identification.
- Communication and sharing information accurately and appropriately is crucial to Safeguarding.
- Support is there to ensure that we continue to work in partnership with parents whilst addressing any concerns.
